A Cape Dwarf Chameleon (Bradypodion pumilum), here a stoic sentinel in the Western Cape’s September deluge near the De Mond Estuary. On a solitary blade of vegetation, anything that can clasps tenuously to life as the flood waters move through, carrying all species, great and small, towards the ocean. A mass of unusual insects cling to the reptile, their one-time predator. Now all are equal, grasping at life’s precious thread. This is a portrait of collective resilience, the subjects unified in a fight for survival.
