This image was taken on a deep dive to Fan Reef in False Bay during the City Nature Challenge in 2022.
At the time, I had never seen a basket star before and was jealously observing other local underwater photographers taking incredible photos of these breathtaking beings.
Conditions were cold, dark, and surgery, and I stumbled upon this natural piece of art at a depth of 25m.
The surge was pushing me and the gorgonian sea fan in all directions, and trial and error coupled with a lot of patience allowed me to capture this image.
