When Botswana’s Mashatu Game Reserve receives good rains, the veld is transformed into a yellow carpet as millions upon millions of devil’s thorn flowers bloom. We were watching an elephant bull feeding on the flowers when I noticed that he was going up a small rise. This gave us the opportunity to change our perspective slightly, photographing his trunk at ground-level. I decided to capture a few close-ups, including this one, and only noticed afterwards how yellow the tip of his trunk had gotten from all the pollen.
