I encountered this lioness on the South African side of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. She was part of a large pride that rested on an elevated position next to the road, waiting patiently for prey to come and drink at the waterhole down in the Nossob riverbed. Unfortunately lions’ cover was blown by some Oryx approaching from behind, and so I had to get creative with my photography as I knew that getting an action shot of a hunt was not going to happen. In this photo I played with bokeh balls from the reflection of the water in the background.
