Oceanic blacktip sharks are common in and around the Indian Ocean Waters. Close to Umkomaas they are part of the dive and tourism attractions, but as well heavily hunted and threatened by the sports fishing community. Used to boats and bait in water for fishing these sharks are present at most dive spots once a dive vessel arrives and puts divers in the water without bait! Harmless on a dive but great to watch and observe. There power is enormous and during the Sardine Run they make sure no sardine comes past Durban.
The West and East Coast of South Africa will soon faces seismic offshore testing which may affect direct or indirect the behaviour or be live threatening to some species. Pictures alike should be possible for future generations, but only if we take care of our Oceans!
