I’ve always wanted to capture the sun inside the curl of a wave. It’s extremely challenging as an ocean photographer, treading water, trying to be in position to capture the wave breaking. This morning I swam out into the sea, just off the rocks, not really a swimming beach. I chose this spot because the wave breaks in a certain way and during the winter season in KZN the sun rises in further east which allows the possibility of this type shot. The ocean was messy and all over the place but I managed to get into the right position, all I need now was the wave to come through in the exact spot. You don’t have a lot of time to achieve this because the sun needs to be at a certain height which only last a minute or 2, or else the sun has risen too much and the opportunity is lost. Thankfully It all aligned this morning and I come away with a very unique image.
