The Southern Masked Weaver’s name is influenced by its nesting behaviour. Although the art of weaving in human culture has existed for many years, weavers have mastered this technique long before the age of civilisation. Using nothing else but their beak, these birds truly are nature’s architect.

When taking this photo I purposefully chose to overexpose the sky to highlight the details from the nest’s texture, as well as the colour of the branch of the fever tree and the Weaver itself.
